Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (‘TAR UC’) and Bodhi Meditation Malaysia Berhad (‘BMMB’) join hands for the third year to bring hope to needy and underprivileged students with the signing of the TAR UC JinBodhi Bursary Deed of Donation in a signing ceremony on 27 September 2019.
The TAR UC JinBodhi Bursary is one of the many financial aid options made available to students at TAR UC. Since the setting up of the bursary in October 2017, the TAR UC JinBodhi Bursary has been lending a helping hand to deserving and underprivileged students by providing financial assistance to them.
For the past 2 years, a total value of close to RM1.6 million has been awarded to 85 Diploma and Bachelor degree students. This year, BMMB has donated a generous amount of RM800,000 towards the bursary which was presented in the signing ceremony. Committee members of BMMB, namely Sister Fu Han, Sister Fa Gong, Brother Xu Te, Sister Dong Cao, Brother Wen Jun were present at the ceremony together with Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC, Assoc Prof Dr Ng Swee Chin, Assoc Prof Dr Chook Ka Joo and Assoc Prof Dr Oo Pou San, Vice Presidents of TAR UC as well as senior officials of TAR UC.
In her speech, Sister Fu Han expressed her hope that the award will help students in achieving their goals and inspire them to give back to society. “It is indeed a great honour to partner with TAR UC to establish the TAR UC JinBodhi Bursary and to support students here as TAR UC has been widely recognised as an institution of higher learning entrenched with the principle of providing quality and affordable education to all.”
“It is our founder Master JinBodhi’s humble wish that all young children are given an opportunity to pursue education. Since the setup of TAR UC JinBodhi Bursary in 2017, we have awarded this Bursary to 85 students, out of which 17 students have completed their diploma or degree studies with great success. We look forward to a long term and close partnership with TAR UC so that more underprivileged young students can benefit from this bursary and fulfil their dreams and ambitions in life,” she said.
Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei also expressed his elation for the immense positive impact this partnership brings to the students. “We are very grateful and honoured to be partnering with Bodhi Meditation Malaysia Berhad in providing financial aid to needy students. TAR UC JinBodhi Bursary was established under the TAR UC Scholarship and Bursary Fund in 2017 to provide bursaries to underprivileged TAR UC students,” said Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, President of TAR UC.
During the ceremony, the existing recipients of the TAR UC JinBodhi Bursary recounted how the bursary had made a positive difference in their lives. Kishern a/l Asok Kumar, a Diploma in Logistics and Supply Chain Management student, who received the 2018 bursary award, comes from a single-parent home. “I used to work part-time to help finance my studies, but when my mother found out, she asked me to stop working so that I could concentrate on my studies. But, after
receiving the bursary, our financial burden was lightened. Now, my mother can focus on my sister’s study expenses,” said Kishern.
Chong Mei Ting, another 2018 bursary award recipient who is studying for the Diploma in Multimedia Design also shared her story. “I come from a poor family. My father is a painter who does not get a fixed monthly income and he takes on short stints because of his poor health. My mother is a housewife who looks after my disabled brother. Before receiving the bursary, I had to work hard on part-time basis and at the same time, stayed up late just to finish my assignments. After receiving the bursary, I am able to focus more in classes and see my academic results improve gradually,” said Mei Ting.
The TAR UC Jinbodhi Bursary 2019 is open for application by TAR UC students in October this year.
