Students to demonstrate business know-how at Curtin Borneo Business Challenge

Miri – 18 August 2011 – Business students from Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) and other tertiary institutions in East Malaysia are set to demonstrate their business know-how at the first Curtin Borneo Business Challenge this 27 August 2011.

To be held at Imperial Palace Hotel Miri, the event is jointly organised by the CPA Australia Student Charter of Curtin Sarawak and Certified Public Accountants Australia (CPA Australia).

The Curtin Borneo Business Challenge is aimed at giving undergraduate students of public and private universities in Sabah and Sarawak exposure to the business world, encouraging them to take a keen interest in business matters, and put their knowledge and skills to the test. It will also provide a platform for networking and the exchange of ideas between students of the participating institutions.

In addition to showing their business know-how, both theoretical and practical, in the competition, participants will also get to learn about the CPA Australia Program, which provides students technical expertise to mould future business leaders.

Attractive prizes sponsored by KPMG and Ernst & Young are up for grabs for the winners in the event. The first-place winner will walk away with a RM2,000 cash prize, trophy and certificate of appreciation. The second and third-place winners, meanwhile, will receive RM1,500 and RM1,000 respectively, as well as trophies and certificates of appreciation.

Pro Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive of Curtin Sarawak, Professor Ian Kerr, said he is pleased to see the Curtin Sarawak CPA Australia Student Charter and CPA Australia come together to organise yet another exciting event to enhance the business knowledge and skills of students not only from Curtin Sarawak, but other institutions of higher learning in East Malaysia as well.

He added that Curtin Sarawak has for a long time had an excellent partnership with CPA Australia, particularly in regard to the recognition of our accounting courses and educational support, and that he is convinced that through the CPA Australia Student Charter, the synergy between Curtin Sarawak and CPA Australia will be significantly enhanced in the years to come.
