Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Defence Ong Ye Kung revealed last month that MINDEF is preparing to return the land on which Sembawang Hot Spring is located, to the Government. National Parks expressed in an interview that ministries are exploring the potentials of developing the area into a spa park.
Side-bar story:
URA held a competition “My Ideas for Public Spaces” which encouraged participants to make suggestions on how forgotten spaces could be developed. Among the 8 winning entries was the one submitted by graduates of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Lee Wei Sen (26, Landscape Design) and Ng Siew Mum (24, Spatial Design). They suggested placing large wooden tubs at the Sembawang Hot Spring. The designers suggested designs that will encourage visitors to enjoy the spring water under typical bath conditions for the young and old, besides planting appropriate tropical plants to enhance the quiet environment.
