(31 July 2016, Sunday) Born in Singapore in 1934, Chieu Shuey Fook is a second-generation Singapore artist and NAFA alumnus. His metal relief works were heavily influenced by pioneer artist and teacher Cheong Soo Pieng. He continues to experiment and pursue the use of new technologies, choosing to use zinc, aluminium and other base metals, combined with a variety of chemicals and materials, to make art.
His artwork titled City Impression is a subtle combination of lines and graphic illustration, and incorporates both 2D and 3D elements, depending on which angle it is viewed from. This artwork is one of those that is being displayed at Chieu’s ongoing exhibition at the NAFA Ngee Ann Kongsi Galleries 1 and 2, which will be held till 14 August.
