International ecotourism conference delegates visit Curtin Sarawak

Miri – 11 June 2010 – 20 delegates who attended the recent international ecotourism conference themed ‘Linking Culture, Nature and Community through Ecotourism’ and subsequent 2-week short training programme with the same theme here paid the campus of Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) a visit before departing Miri.

They comprised delegates from Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) member countries such as Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Maldives, Morocco, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Syria, Timor-Leste, Yemen, Uzbekistan and Vietnam who were invited to undergo the training programme.


The international conference and training programme were jointly organised for the first time in Miri by the Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) in Kuala Lumpur and Curtin Sarawak with support from federal and state government agencies.

On hand to receive the group were Deputy Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Joan Gribble; Shamsul Anwar Mohd. Hussein, Business Development Manager of Curtin Consultancy Services (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, the university’s consultancy arm; Marketing Manager Liew Mei Yin and Corporate Communications Manager Nicholas Leong.

Following a welcoming speech by Professor Gribble and a briefing on Curtin Sarawak by Liew, the visitors were taken on a tour of the campus.
