It was a joyous day for students, parents and lecturers as IACT College celebrated its convocation on 27th of April, 2019. Held at Eastin Hotel Petaling Jaya, the 211 graduates from the Certificate in Communication Studies, Foundation in Media Studies, Diploma and Degree programmes in Mass Communication, Advertising, Graphic Design, Multimedia and Broadcasting looked splendid in their robes, while anticipating to celebrate the completion of their tertiary studies.
Among the guests present at the convocation are Mr. Raja Singham, Chairman of BAC Education Group, Mr. Collin Lai, Director of Vantage Qube Sdn Bhd, Professor Kevin Petrie, Head of the School of Art and Design, University of Sunderland and Mr. John Chacko, President of International Advertising Association (Malaysia).
Peh Xin Ying, valedictorian for graduating class 2019 delivered an inspirational and emotional speech to fellow graduates to encourage her fellow graduates to live passionately and give their 200% in everything they choose to do. Peh is graduating from BA (Hons) Advertising and Design (3+0) Program.
“Do everything with love. Because quite frankly, it is the very least we owe to ourselves. Don’t wake up every morning and live half-heartedly, because every day you spend doing that is a day of your life wasted. Don’t let fear and doubt prevent you from giving your all. Give 100% to everything you do. Heck, give 200%. Do every little thing you do with love, because every act of it adds to the richness of your life. And life’s just too short to be spent on anything less!”
She also gave credit to the industry lecturers from IACT College who taught her in the last 4 years. “My dear lecturers, you are the most dedicated educators I know in Malaysia. I hope that you’re proud of the girl you see today. I vow to make that pride you feel permanent. I credit most of my successes today to all of you, for you are truly are the giants whose shoulders I stand on.”
The Senior lecturer and Chief Operating Officer of IACT College, Mr. Lawrence commended the graduates in his speech, and apply what they have learnt as “Big Idea” in their lives. “As an IACT College graduate, you have shown great commitment, passion and the will to excel, and you’re all now extremely aware of the difference creativity and Big Ideas can make in your lives and your work, and you have come to realise that Big Ideas are expensive. Expensive because they take a lot of your time and your effort to develop, to incubate and finally bring to life. So as you start the next phase of your life, what’s your Big Idea? What will you be willing to spend your moral and intellectual capital, your sweat, your time, your pain and your life on, to create the Big Idea in your life? I urge you to take some time off to reflect on what that Big Idea is going to be. Given your creative talent, intellectual capital and skills, you WILL find it!”
