(20 August 2015, Thursday) This Channel U series features overseas Singaporeans who travel back to Singapore and explores their lives and experiences back home.
In this episode, the featured Singaporean is former NAFA student Daniel Yiau, who is currently pursuing his degree at Conservatorium van Amsterdam, majoring in conducting.
The first third of the episode focuses on his life in Amsterdam, while the rest of the video shows his life back in Singapore – his family, the local food, and his school life.
From 30:03 to 34:49, his student life at NAFA is highlighted. He met Dr Goh Toh Chai, his former teacher, and shared how Dr Goh helped him in funding for his overseas study in Amsterdam. When asked why he helped Daniel, Dr Goh spoke about how he also received help when he faced difficulties as he was studying in America, and hoped that Daniel would pay it forward to benefit the society in future.
One of NAFA’s music classrooms is featured, where Dr Goh and the host perform a short song rendition.
The Lee Foundation Theatre is also featured in the clip, and Daniel shared how nervous he used to feel when he was performing on the stage.
