KUALA LUMPUR, 18 July 2018 – Organised for the fourth consecutive year by Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (‘TAR UC’) and TARCian Alumni Association (‘TAA’), the annual TARCian Run is back much to the joy of many avid runners!
This year’s run will take place on 12 August 2018 and will be held concurrently at all TAR UC campuses nationwide – Kuala Lumpur Main Campus, Penang Branch Campus, Perak Branch Campus, Johor Branch Campus, Pahang Faculty Branch and Sabah Faculty Branch. A press conference was held on 16 July 2018 to highlight the coming of TARCian Run as well as the encouraging response it had garnered.
Inaugurated since 2015, TARCian Run aims at raising funds towards the TARC Education Foundation to fund the construction of a Student Centre which will serve as a centralised hub of student activities at TAR UC Kuala Lumpur Main Campus. Presently, students have to conduct their various activities at scattered locations in the campus, preventing collective brainstorming among the students that is so essential in sparking ideation. The Student Centre aims to create an inspiring learning space that draws students together for sharing, learning and socialising that will nurture the desired soft skills, leadership and also serve as the training ground to spur creativity and innovation.
“One of the objectives for the annual TARCian Run is to unite our alumni”, said Datuk Dr Tan Chik Heok, President of TAR UC, during the press conference. “The number of runners has been increasing each year since we first started in 2015 and I hope that as the years go by, more alumni will come forward and join the run.
“Our students are very excited about this run,” he added. “Organising the TARCian Run each year also creates awareness on the importance of physical health and exercise.”
“I am very proud to say that this year we have reached 10,000 participants even though it is still about one month ahead of the event,” commented Mr Lim Kok Eng, Organising Chairman of TARCian Run 2018. “I would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to our sponsors and participants who have shown us tremendous support.” He also revealed that close to RM30,000 worth of lucky draw prizes would also be up for grabs in this year’s TARCian Run.
This year’s run will be sponsored by 11 esteemed organisations – BGMC Corporation Sdn Bhd is the Platinum Sponsor while Ajiya Berhad, Ebara Pumps Malaysia Sdn Bhd, B&G Capital Resources Berhad and Ca’ya Brands’ are the Gold Sponsors.
Other sponsors include NEP Holdings (Malaysia) Bhd, RedONE, Delfi Marketing Sdn Bhd, F&N Beverage Marketing Sdn Bhd, Regal Marketing & Trading Sdn Bhd and Fleet International Holdings Sdn Bhd along with Sin Chew Daily and The Star as the official media partners.
Going digital for the first time, participants have the convenience of registering and making payment through Social Wallet mobile app, thanks to the partnership with Soliton Digital Sdn Bhd who develops this app.
During the press conference, a demonstration was conducted to demonstrate the use of Social Wallet in terms of registration, making payment and embedded security feature using QR code for race kit collection.
Runners who have registered for the run in Kuala Lumpur will be able to pick up their race kits from the Function Room at the Club House, Kuala Lumpur Main Campus on 2 – 3 August 2018 (TAR UC staff and students) and 4 – 5 August 2018 (Alumni and non TARCians).
