(5 October 2015, Monday) Since setting foot in Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts to pursue BA (Hons) in Fine Art, Mr Muhammad Dzaki Safaruan, 24, had set a First Class Honours as his goal. His perseverance, discipline and sacrifice were not in vain because his dream came true. At the NAFA Convocation recently held at University Cultural Centre, National University of Singapore, he not only received a Bachelor’s degree with First Class Honours, but was also named the ‘Best Graduate’ for the BA Fine Art programmes. 779 graduates were conferred with degrees and diplomas this year, and some had already received job offers.
Recounting his artistic journey in NAFA, Mr Muhammad Dzaki said: “The biggest challenge for fine art students is to have constant focus, motivation and discipline in creating artworks. Inspiration must be cultivated continuously. At first I was not sure what the demands of a fine art course were. As it turned out, it is not only about painting. I chose NAFA because it has a larger space dedicated to create artwork. In our small community, it is easy to exchange ideas and our lecturers are also ready to help build ideas and raw concepts into something substantial.”
Amidst his busy schedule, toiling away in the art studio, he also took time to be active in Angkatan Pelukis Aneka Daya (Apad) activities.
