An event to celebrate only the worthy and best of regional and international fashion designs, the annual Penang Fashion Week made its 4th comeback during April 14th – 22nd at Gurney Paragon. This year, invited guests and public audience were introduced to the Malaysian fashion scene through 26 runway shows from 16 local and international designers.

The event also marked another year of recognition for ESMOD Kuala Lumpur as its new batch of graduates were invited as part of the entourage to display their personal graduation collections. 15 ESMOD graduates shared the runway with some of the biggest names in the industry as selected spring and summer collections of Michael Kors, Kate Spade New York and La Martina, among a few others, served as the event’s grand opening.

The ESMOD Kuala Lumpur team that pulled off a fantastic show at Penang Fashion Week 2018.

A total number of 24 garments by ESMOD KL themed Ciao and Morph graced the runway during their set, revealing a huge spectrum of cultural inspirations, colors, influences and personalities that trademark the unique styles of ESMOD KL fashion designers.

Morph signifies the process of forming, reflecting students’ willingness to embrace change. Morph’s philosophy aims to create meaning in fashion by reflecting their physical and spiritual development throughout the years in ESMOD KL. A look at their collection reveals inspirations from geometry, natural florals, heritage, pop culture and modernity.

The graduates from Morph who presented their collections were Tan Win Shean, Shana Tan Hwei Wen, Tay Sin Yee, Angel Pong Zi-Qing, Jesse Suping and Laven Lim Zhi Xin.

Ciao is an informal Italian salutation for ‘hello’ and ‘goodbye’. The collection symbolises the end of an emotional journey in ESMOD and a beginning to their new life. The collections are based on more abstract ideas such as emotions, relationships, self-love, social commentaries, futurism, juxtaposition, gratitude, empowerment and non-conformity.

The graduates from Ciao who presented their collections were Angelina Yiting, Mildred Hong, Evie Lim Yee Wey, Shawn Er Chao Kin, Ho Liren, Gan Shih Ni, Wong Man Man, Ng Chiau Yin and Winnie Lee.

The prestigious fashion platform also saw participations by esteemed designers Keith Kee, Richard Rivalee, Jasmine Phoon, Dennis Lee, Samantha Chua, Ranndy Goh and Michael Ooi, among many others. To be able to join in their leagues, the young and talented ESMOD designers have gained a valuable experience to boost their confidence, creativity and credibility.

“We are very proud of what our students have achieved after undergoing our ESMOD Kuala Lumpur’s international programme. Upon graduation, most of our students will be starting their internship under the guidance of top fashion designers in the country. So, this will warm them up for what’s to come, and hopefully inspire and motivate them even further,” said Tan Chin Wee, Group Executive Director of ESMOD Kuala Lumpur.
