Miri – 1 March 2021 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) will be the proud host and local organiser of the 2021 Asian Meeting of the Econometric Society (AMES 2021), the prestigious annual regional conference for The Econometric Society in Miri from 25 to 27 June 2021.
The Econometric Society is an international society for the advancement of economic theory in its relation to statistics and mathematics. Its main activities are the publication of the journals Econometrica, Quantitative Economics, and Theoretical Economics; publication of a research Monograph Series; and organisation of scientific meetings in six regions of the world.
The conference is aimed at promoting research in economics using quantitative approaches, both theoretical and empirical, and is expected to bring together more than 500 local and international participants.
It will feature an impressive lineup of distinguished keynote speakers comprising senior academicians and economics experts from leading universities such as the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Oxford University, Yale University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, University of Southern California, Stanford University, Boston University, Columbia University and University of Chicago.
Among the keynote speakers is Professor Robert J. Shiller, a Nobel Prize laureate in Economic Sciences of 2013. More details on the keynote speakers can be found at https://ames.curtin.edu.my/keynote“.
The conference advisory committee also has a distinguished lineup of senior economics experts from the University of Southern California, National Taiwan University, Peking University, Kobe University, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Seoul National University, and Chinese University of Hong Kong.
Similarly, the programme committee comprises representatives from Monash University, University of Kansas, Academia Sinica, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Southwestern University of Finance and Economics, National University of Singapore, University of Pennsylvania, University of California-Riverside, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Yale University, Boston College, Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business, City University of Hong Kong, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, North-West University, Kyoto University, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Singapore Management University, Seoul National University, University of California-Davis, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Guangzhou), University of Toronto, and Singapore Management University.
The local organising committee, meanwhile, is comprised of staff of Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Business and ICT Department, headed by associate professor of the Department of Finance and Banking, Dr. Changyong Zhang, and senior lecturer of the Department of Marketing, Dr. Goi Chai Lee. Among the committee members are Dr. Shamsul Kamariah Abdullah, Siti Kasmah Mohd. Kassim, Wendy Li Ling Law, Tanusree Chakravarty Mukherjee, Megawati Mustapha, and Dr. Abey P. Philip.
Dr. Goi Chai Lee, co-chair for the conference, said that AMES 2021 will be significant in bringing together researchers or academics with common interests, enabling them to meet and discuss issues or ideas that focus on topics of mutual concern.
He said that delegates have the option to attend the conference online or physically, if the situation allows, and appropriate registration fees will apply. There are also different fees for professionals and students, and for Econometric Society members and non-members.
Those interested to attend the conference can register between 16 March and 30 April 2021. This includes an early bird registration period from 16 to 31 March allowing delegates to qualify for a registration fee discount.
Furthermore, The Econometric Society will award a limited number of grants to attend for young scholars whose papers are accepted to present at the conference. The allocation of the fund will be on a competitive basis and applications will be evaluated by a review committee. The grants will help cover the registration fee at a minimum. At present, the conference programme has yet to be announced. A preliminary announcement will be made on 10 May.
