(14 September 2015, Monday) Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam officiated the opening ceremony for Mid-Autumn festivities at Chinatown on Sunday (Sept 13). There were drone lanterns and dance performances culminating with fireworks. This year’s theme for the annual light-up is A Golden Jubilee Mid-Autumn.
A total of 2,300 lanterns lined the streets of Chinatown for the annual light-up. The centrepiece is a 12m-tall Merlion lantern, facing Upper Cross Street, which is designed by Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts students and produced by a team of craftsmen from China.
