Ammar Khumri, a Diploma in Culinary Arts student saw his extra mile of hard work pay off when he bagged the Meat Livestock Australia Butchery Scholarship to attend an appren-ticeship programme in Australia.
Pastry and Bakery student Ivy Ng smiled as sweet as the opportunity to attend a Valrhona Chocolate Patisserie Scholarship at the Ecole du Grand Chocolat in Tain L’Hermitage, France.
Moving beyond the kitchen and classroom, such competitions give students the motivation to succeed in their craft. “I never realized I could push myself so hard and taste the feeling of accomplishment after a long day’s work. It takes skills and knowledge to be good at something but in order to succeed desire and discipline is key. All the training, studying, and support from my peers and chef instructors definitely made the difference.“ says Ammar Khumri.
