Miri – 20 September 2023 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) is collaborating with the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak, Sarawak Research Society, and Centre of Responsible Borneo (REBORN) to host the ‘World Tourism Day 2023’ conference in Miri from 23 to 24 September 2023.
Themed ‘Tourism and Green Investments’, the event is set to take place at Pullman Miri Waterfront and will bring together industry leaders, travel experts, and government officials to explore the latest trends and innovations in the tourism sector. The conference’s guest of honour will be Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts.
During the conference, renowned speakers from various sectors of the tourism industry will take to the podium, sharing their insights and experiences on topics such as sustainable tourism practices, digital transformation, destination marketing strategies, and the future of travel.
Participants will have the opportunity to gain valuable knowledge, exchange ideas, and explore potential partnerships that will propel the tourism industry forward.
Among the key highlights of the event is a comprehensive workshop and panel session featuring influential government officials who will discuss policies, incentives, and initiatives aimed at promoting tourism growth and resilience in Miri through event hosting. This session will provide delegates with a deeper understanding of the local tourism landscape and opportunities for collaboration.
As part of the event programme, delegates will also have the opportunity to experience the unique attractions and offerings of Miri. A variety of post-event tours, showcasing the area’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and culinary delights, will be available for delegates to participate in.
In addition to that, a community market will also be held at Coco Cabana on 24 September 2023 from 9 am-7 pm to commemorate World Tourism Day, as well as promote local businesses and foster community engagement. In conjunction with the event and as a means to celebrate and promote local talents, Curtin Malaysia will be hosting a ‘Paint and Plan a Dream City Art and Design Contest’ and the winning entries will be showcased at Coco Cabana.
Members of the public are invited to patronise the community market and visit the art exhibition as it is an excellent platform to meet up with tourism stakeholders, discover hidden gems in their neighbourhood, and support the local economy.
