Miri – 6 December 2021 – Curtin University Malaysia (Curtin Malaysia) and data technology market leader Fusionex recently signed an MoU to strengthen collaboration in a number of areas.
These include joint development of capstone computing projects in software development; hosting industry talks; offering internship programs, and providing students with industrial training, job placement opportunities, and help in attaining professional certification. It also involves initiating an industrial placement programme for Curtin Malaysia academics with Fusionex, as well as conducting joint research in data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Fusionex is a global multi-award-winning technology company specialising in analytics, data management, machine learning and artificial intelligence. With offices in Asia, Europe and the United States as well as a sizeable and strong team of professionals, Fusionex has an established track record of delivering high quality, mission-critical state-of-the-art and ahead-of-the-market analytics for various organisations across the world.
Signing the MoU for Curtin Malaysia were Pro Vice-Chancellor, President and Chief Executive Professor Simon Leunig and Dean of Faculty of Engineering and Science Professor Tuong-Thuy Vu. Fusionex was represented by Vice-President Chen Keat Ming and Senior Manager Tan Sean Khong.
Professor Leunig commented that this collaboration was significant not only because Fusionex is one of the world’s leading data technology providers, but also because it will bring significant tangible benefits to the students and academics at Curtin Malaysia.
He said working with Fusionex on capstone computing projects would provide students with real-world scenarios currently experienced in the industry. Professionals from Fusionex will co-supervise the students alongside academics, and provide the necessary technological resources to carry out these projects.
Professor Leunig also said that Curtin Malaysia – with its pool of researchers in intelligent systems, design and control research; modern research facilities and access to relevant Curtin research centers in Australia – is well placed for conducting joint research projects with Fusionex. He said Curtin Malaysia is widely recognised for its achievements in applied research with a firm focus on solving real-world challenges, and strong industry partnerships underpin its research endeavors.
Professor Vu said academic staff of Curtin Malaysia will benefit greatly from the proposed industrial placement programme, giving them valuable practical exposure to the data technology industry and insights into business and operations of a significant global organisation like Fusionex.
Meanwhile, Chen said Fusionex would provide speakers from its highly-experienced team of professionals in Malaysia and internationally as well as co-host regular industry talks for students and academics at Curtin Malaysia. This will give students and academics insights into various aspects of the industry and the opportunity to actively engage with industry professionals.
He added that Fusionex was looking forward to providing internship, industrial training and recruitment opportunities for Curtin Malaysia students as it has a reputation for producing highly competent learners and graduates.
According to Chen, Fusionex is also prepared to help students obtain professional certification, leveraging on Fusionex GIANT, the organisation’s complete end-to-end Advanced Analytics and Data Discovery platform. This will reflect positively on their CVs when looking for their first job upon graduation.
