In an effort to connect eager learners with industry professionals through its “Masters Train Masters” philosophy, The One Academy had invited six renowned creative experts from corners of the world to share their knowledge, insight and inspiration through the Live International Masterclass: Creativity & Design Online Series. The audience who tuned in were students of The One Academy as well as secondary school students interested in pursuing the creative arts.
Among the invited presenters was Véronique Beaumont, a fashion industry veteran with more than 20 years’ experience and an expert in international development strategy for luxury fashion brands, having worked with brand names such as Karl Lagerfeld, Paco Rabanne, Sonia Rykiel, Christian Lacroix and more. She is also a member of ESMOD Paris, the oldest fashion school in the world with a history of 180 years with a branch established here as ESMOD Kuala Lumpur.
With her extensive understanding in fashion, she spoke about the future of fashion in regards to art & culture, sociology, ecology and high technology, as well as the impact of the current pandemic on the international fashion industry in her session titled “Vital Trends in the Fashion Industry.” This sharing was advantageous to ESMOD Kuala Lumpur alumni who have just established their own brands, and to students who are planning for their own brands in the future.
According to Beaumont, we are seeing the rise of empaths and resilience in humans in this pandemic era, where people are stronger in the face of difficulties. As creators, fashion designers should be sensible to the ecology and aim to create a better world for the greater good, by spreading the impact of reusing, reducing and recycling by using more sustainable materials.
She shared that the designer skills to have in 2020 and the coming future are to return to the fundamentals, such as acquiring a deeper understanding in product skills (fabrics, colours, drawing), to learning technical and software skills such as 3D design, photography and videography. She encouraged students to be more aware of not only fashion culture but also artistic and general cultures, to have a clear understanding of the era we live in now.
Beaumont revealed the ‘5 Social Media Marketing Trends to Adopt in 2020’: rise of the TikTok influencer, purpose-driven content, video storytelling, impact of the nano-influencers and augmented reality (AR)/virtual reality (VR).
“Social media plays a very important role as a digital communication to build your own brand and get your brand name out there, and to target the communities that you want to reach,” said Beaumont. She added that one of the very first things to do when launching one’s own brand is to create a social media account, especially Instagram, to build their brand content and network, to engage by storytelling, to forge connections with photographers, videomakers and influencers for collaborations.
