Curtin Sarawak and Politeknik Brunei to explore collaboration

Miri – 7 September 2016 – Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) and Politeknik Brunei are to explore future collaboration in various areas following a working visit by representatives of the Department of Petroleum Engineering at Curtin Sarawak’s Faculty of Engineering and Science to Politeknik Brunei’s Lumut Campus recently.

Associate Professor Sharul Sham bin Dol, Head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering, and programme coordinator Dr. Hisham Khaled Ben Mahmud were received by Dean of Politeknik Brunei’s School of Science and Engineering Dr. Siong S. Tang, programme leader for well engineering Chai Soon Fu and other academic staff of the School’s Well Engineering Department.

In their discussions, collaboration in teaching, expertise and student exchange, as well as credit transfer for Politeknik Brunei graduates to pursue degree studies at Curtin Sarawak, were mooted. They also discussed collaboration between the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) student chapters of both institutions.

The visit also involved Associate Professor Sharul delivering a talk to more than 70 of Politeknik Brunei’s Diploma of Petroleum Engineering students on further studies in petroleum engineering at Curtin Sarawak.

Associate Professor Sharul said he was much encouraged by the response of his Bruneian counterparts and looks forward to reciprocal visit by a Politeknik Brunei delegation to Curtin Sarawak later this month.

“Both our institutions should grasp the opportunity to collaborate and share our resources to develop more human capital for the petroleum industry in this region,” he remarked.
