Miri – 25 August 2016 – Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia’s footballers put up a good showing at the recent inaugural under-23 CETA Miri League 2016 held at Padang Majlis Bandaraya Miri.
The tournament, organised by the Miri Football Association under the Program Pembangunan Bolasepak Miri, saw the Curtin Sarawak team beat Institut Latihan Perindustrian Miri (ILP) 1-0. Prior to that, the team defeated FBSB FC by 3 goals to 2 and drew with Sibuti Bavarians FC 3-3.
Other teams in the tournament were Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara Miri (IKBN), Institut Pendidikan Guru Kampus Sarawak (IPGKS), Permy Galaxy FC and Wisma Recreational Sports Club.
The Curtin Sarawak team was sponsored by Tekmark Group and Curtin Sarawak’s Housing & Recreation Services Department.
25 players from the university’s Faculty of Engineering and Science and Faculty of Business formed the Curtin Sarawak team. The team is managed and coached by Associate Professor Dr Sharul Sham bin Dol, who is Head of the Department of Petroleum Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, assisted by Sports and Recreation Officer Mohd. Shahrizan bin Zaini.
The tournament kicked off with the game between Curtin Sarawak and FBSB FC. Present to officiate the opening ceremony was State Assemblyman for Piasau Dato’ Sebastian Ting, Miri Football Association President Mohamad Saif Jubaidi and Curtin Sarawak’s Chief Operating Officer Kingsley Francis Charles.
The Curtin Sarawak team, captained by Muhammad Haamim Md. Yusof, won the match through goals by strikers Ibrahim Yahaya Aminu, Jeremy Anton Ryan Dhondee and Hamada Alkhlif.
