Miri – 22 October 2015 – With over 40 participating employers, the 2-day Curtin Career Fair 2015 at Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) today and tomorrow is offering students and alumni of the university and members of the public opportunities to seek lucrative jobs throughout Malaysia and Singapore.
Representatives of the employers, which include a number of big names in Malaysian and Singaporean commerce and industry, are keen to meet with potential employees and even conduct on-the-spot interviews.
The event at the university’s Recreation & Event Centre was declared open by Deputy Resident of Miri Haji Abdul Aziz Mohd. Yusuf on behalf of Assistant Minister for Communications and Sports Datuk Lee Kim Shin.
It is open from 10 am to 4 pm on both days and admission is free. Job-seekers are advised to bring along their resumes, cover letters, transcripts and other related documents for any on-the-spot interviews.
Curtin Sarawak’s Pro Vice-Chancellor Professor Jim Mienczakowski in his welcoming speech delivered by Professor Michael Cloke, Dean of Curtin Sarawak’s Faculty of Engineering Science, remarked that the annual event is part of the university’s commitment to serving the local community in providing career opportunities in various industries and supporting its industry partners.
He added that the fair is an excellent opportunity for the participating employers to engage with current students of Curtin Sarawak who will soon graduate, as well as its alumni who may be seeking new career prospects.
Meanwhile, Datuk Lee in his speech delivered by Haji Abdul Aziz said that the annual Curtin Career Fair is a testament to the strong support the university gets from industry and the increasing number of employers participating each year reflects a growing demand for Curtin Sarawak graduates.
“I am proud to note that Curtin’s high-quality programmes and progressive and holistic approach towards teaching and learning has helped produce graduates of high calibre and who are well-prepared for careers in industry,” remarked Datuk Lee.
Big names like Ernst & Young, Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), Samling Group of Companies, Motorola Solutions Malaysia, Petronas, Public Bank, Shell Malaysia, Rohde & Schwarz Malaysia and Tokuyama Malaysia are among the participating employers.
Three leading Singaporean companies – Tiong Seng Contractors (Pte.) Ltd., King Wan Construction and Contact Singapore – are also among the participants.
According to Keith Chew Heng Ngiap, Manager (Project and Planning) of Tiong Seng Contractors, the company is looking at recruiting not only students but also experienced professionals in the field of mechanical, electrical or civil and construction engineering.
The Curtin Career Fair is one of the biggest events in Curtin Sarawak’s calendar of events and draws a substantial number of employers from both East and West Malaysia, as well as Singapore, each year. For the participating organisations, it is an opportunity to promote their respective industries and organisations to a wider market, in addition to attracting potential employees.
