(5 October 2015, Monday) Losing her father was a great blow to Ms Siti Ameera Jais, 24. The youngest of four siblings was forced to work as a retail assistant for 2 years after completing her GCE ‘O’ level at Evergreen Secondary School, because she did not want to burden her mother and siblings with the course fees when she continued her studies at NAFA. Her hard work saw her graduating with a Diploma with Distinction under the Diploma in Design and Media (Interactive Media) course. Not only that, during her study in NAFA, she met her fellow course mate, Ms Fildzahanis Khamis, 25, who had also experienced the hardship of losing her father before enrolling at NAFA.
The two of them pushed each other to greatness and were both recognized as brilliant students in NAFA with the Mendaki Awards. They have also found full-time job after their recent graduation form NAFA – Ms Ameera as an interface designer and Ms Fildzahanis as a graphic designer. Their experience at NAFA strengthened their understanding of current issues. Ms Fildzahanis designed campaign concept to save abandoned cats for her final year project, while Ms Ameera enriched her knowledge by sketching a campaign for coral reef conservation.
