Miri – 15 April 2015 – Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) will be the first university in Sarawak and the first foreign branch campus in Malaysia to host the National Chemical Engineering Symposium (NACES) 2015.
Organised by the Curtin Sarawak Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) Student Chapter in collaboration with the Department of Chemical Engineering of Curtin Sarawak’s Faculty of Engineering and Science and IChemE Malaysia, the symposium will be held from 4 to 6 December 2015. It has been held annually since 2005.
NACES is an annual national level event organised by the chemical engineering student societies of universities in Malaysia in collaboration with their respective universities’ chemical engineering departments and the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) of Malaysia. The three-day symposium is hosted every year by rotation among public and private universities that offer chemical engineering as a programme of study.
NACES serves as a platform for chemical engineering undergraduates to demonstrate their creative thinking, effective communication and technical knowledge in generating innovative solutions to global development issues and challenges. It also provides an opportunity to enhance the integration and networking of all chemical engineering undergraduates in Malaysia and expose them to the realm of the profession.
In addition, the symposium promotes the significance of professional engineering practices and sustainability awareness in support of the social and economic development.
With the theme ‘Tug of War: Fossil Fuels against Renewables’, NACES 2015 will feature seven major technical sessions – Technical Essay Writing, Technical Case Study, Technical PowerPoint Presentation, Technical Debate Competition, Technical Video Presentation, Chemical Engineering Challenge and Process Plant Design.
NACES 2015 is being supported by Sarawak Energy Berhad, Curtin Sarawak’s Faculty of Engineering and Science, Sarawak Convention Bureau and IChemE Malaysia. The NACES 2015 committee seeks further sponsorship from industry players and local businesses, and sponsorship details can be downloaded from the symposium website at engsci.curtin.edu.my/naces2015.
Registration for participation in NACES 2015 is open until 15 July 2015. Invitations and registration packages will be sent to all Malaysian universities offering chemical engineering programmes. Those interested to participate can download the registration form and participation details on the symposium website.
