Miri – 16 May 2013 – Four student members of the Accounting Club Curtin Sarawak (ACCS) of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) represented the university at the recent 12th Inter-Varsity Accounting Quiz (IVAQ) organised by the Accounting Club of Multimedia University, Melaka Campus.
The students were Ling Yi Qing, Jennifer Chan Mie Ching, Karen Hee Tau Fung and Jong Ling and their team was among the 35 teams competing in the quiz, placing ninth overall.
This year’s IVAQ, with the theme ‘Diversified as Individuals, United as Accountants’, was supported by the Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), which prepared all the quiz questions. It featured two categories – individual and teams.
Over 150 undergraduates from 20 private and public institutions of higher learning in Malaysia, including Universiti Malaya, Multimedia University, Kuala Lumpur Metropolitan University College, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman, Taylor’s University and Sunway University College, attended the event.
The ACCS is one of the most active student clubs at Curtin Sarawak, having organised various events on and off campus in collaboration with the CPA Australia Student Charter Curtin Sarawak, another student club on campus, as well as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), CPA Australia and the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA). The club has also organised forums featuring speakers from Shell, Ernst & Young and KPMG.
