Miri – 24 October 2012 – A team of five chemical engineering students of Curtin University, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) recently bagged the runner-up prize in the Honeywell UniSim Design Challenge 2012, a student competition organised by Honeywell and Student Competitions.
The team comprised fourth-year students Jeffrey Pang Kok Hooi, 22; and Jeremiah Ting Siew Hoo, 24; third-year students Goh Wui Seng, 21; and Anson Yong, 22; and graduate student Oriekwo Eze, 24. The Honeywell UniSim Design Challenge 2012 aims to nurture and promote talent in the process manufacturing industry as well as unearth technology leaders from higher learning institutions in Europe, Africa, the Americas and Asia.
It is a competition where students utilise the Honeywell UniSim® Design Suite software to design processes to solve critical plant business issues of their choice. Their submissions to the competition must demonstrate creativity and innovation, as well as detail the benefits to be derived from their solution.
The software is used by industrial manufacturers worldwide to design, optimise and test manufacturing processes before they are implemented in a wide range of industrial facilities. It is also used to improve production and safety by training personnel offline to operate these processes.
As the runner-up prize winners, the Curtin Sarawak students are entitled to free advanced training courses conducted at any Honeywell office in the region. The courses include PDS-4527: Advanced Process Modelling using UniSim Design (2 days Steady state) and PDS-4528: Dynamic Modelling using UniSim Design (3 days Dynamics).
