Miri – 23 June 2010 – An 11-member delegation from the Jefri Bolkiah College of Engineering (JBCE), also known as Maktab Kejuruteraan Jefri Bolkiah, in Brunei Darussalam, paid a visit to Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak Malaysia (Curtin Sarawak) here in Miri recently.
The delegation comprised the college’s acting principal; its deputy principals of Education & Training and Administration; registrar, IT manager, and heads or assistant heads of its library and Language & Communication, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Instrumentation and Computer & Information Technology departments.
On hand to receive them were staff of the university’s Corporate Communications Department and, as the visitors were particularly interested in Curtin Sarawak’s learning support, engineering, ICT and library facilities, deans of its School of Engineering and Science and School of Foundation and Continuing Studies, as well as its chief librarian and ICT manager.
According to JBCE Acting Principal Haji Mohd. Sharifuddin bin Haji Mohd. Salleh, his delegation’s visit was intended to strengthen ties with managers and academics of Curtin Sarawak, learn from their experiences and best practices, and exchange ideas with them.
“Our college is eager to study the administration of particular areas here at Curtin Sarawak such as engineering and English Language as we have related fields of study at JBCE. We are also interested to find out if there are any opportunities for collaboration in research and development between our two institutions,” said Haji Mohd. Sharifuddin.
The Curtin Sarawak deans and managers present gave briefings on their respective schools and departments, as well as accreditation of Curtin Sarawak’s business and engineering courses by professional and government bodies, and the university’s self-accreditation status granted by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
This was followed by a question-and-answer session and discussion on areas of mutual interest such as entry pathways for JBCE diploma graduates interested to pursue undergraduate degrees at Curtin Sarawak.
Thereafter, the visitors were taken on a tour of the university campus including its schools, research facilities, teaching and learning facilities, and student support and recreational facilities.
