创意的设计天分不是与生俱来，而是需要通过文化、语言等方面的研究和了解，并将其融入设计概念中磨练而成。东南亚地区拥有很多不同的文化背景，学生们只需加紧的研究及了解，必能在设计路上创意无限。
达尔尚艺术学院 (DASEIN ACADEMY OF ART) 首推 [邻.距离]邻里计划，学生可以透过考察团探讨该地文化，在认识不同国籍的学生同时， 也令他们对该地文化有具体的认知。
达尔尚艺术学院副院长郑惟峰接受专访时表示， 早前他在泰国巧遇一名泰国设计师，对方曾在欧美留学及米兰工作，惟事后仍选择在泰国发展。让他对此设计师非常好奇并询问其原因。该泰国设计师竟告诉他，身为外国人的他不了解米兰的文化，但却非常了解泰国文化，既然自己拥有一身好功夫，那为何不留在自己的国家发展呢？这样他才能做出更多具内涵的设计。
郑惟峰说，对设计而言，文化底蕴强稳是非常重要，很多设计师根本不了解自己的文化即往欧美国家发展，学习该地文化。但其实东南亚的文化资源丰富且特别，皆因拥有被统治等的历史，是充满色彩的文化产地。泰国设计师的一席话让他有了启发，决定开发一项能让学生在学习期间即有机会学习异国文化的考察团，开拓设计视野。
在与著名设计师兼导师之一的胡智义 (Joseph Foo) 协商后，双方一起于 2009 年推动[邻.距离] 邻里计划，并陆续获得泰国国王科技大学(King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonbori) <http://www.kmutnb.ac.th/en/>、新加坡拉萨尔艺术学院(Lasalle College of the Arts)、印尼建国大学(Binus University)的支持。2014年，来自寮国Souphanouvong University 的教务长 Philakone Sengdala专程到马来西亚观摩此活动，该大学计划于2015年加入[邻.距离]邻里计划。经过三届的邻.距离] 邻里计划后， 原本低调进行的计划已成熟化且反应热烈。为此，达尔尚艺术学院 (DASEIN ACADEMY OF ART) 计划将此活动分享给更多的东南亚大学与学院, 建立一个东南亚的学生联系网络。
新老城市之间的景观
每一年的 [邻.距离] 邻里计划都会有一个主题，而今年的主题是”新老城市之间的景观“。主题的重点在于“新“与“旧“之间的对比，以及当中让人省思的人生探讨。为了呈现主题的重点，学生们必须以废物或再循环资源创造出与主题相符的艺术作品，通过语言与艺术的形式交流，以达到更了解彼此的目的。
Neighbour Program is a collaborative project initiated by Dasein Academy of Art, Malaysia, with an intention built a network with art and design institution from Southeast Asia region. The project is now joined by Lasalle College of the Arts (Singapore), King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (Thailand) and Binus University (Indonesia). This year Dasein Academy of Art hosted the program with the theme about urban landscape at Kuala Lumpur City Gallery from 1st June to 30th June 2014.
Neighbour Program play an important role in the future to help in the shaping and documenting of Southeast Asia cultural through networking and education, we are determined to see this project as: a network to encourage closer relationship where art and design institutions from Southeast Asia could make connections with one another, creating opportunities for academic affiliation, cross-cultural events, guest lecturer visits, school visits, internship opportunities, employment opportunities; a “research as practice” project on Southeast Asia’s visual culture; exchange programs or workshops could be initiated to invite art and design students and staff of Southeast Asia to team up for a research project; an archive for art and design education initiatives.
