Chang Er and Hou Yi “gather” for Chinatown Mid-Autumn Festival
(1 September 2016, Thursday) This year’s Mid-Autumn Festival light-up in Chinatown will begin on 3 September, and will tell the classic stories of Chang Er and Hou Yi.
The light-up will feature a total of 900 lanterns along New Bridge Road, Eu Tong Sen Street and South Bridge Road. For the first time, the light-up will make use of LED lanterns, which are environmentally-friendly, can save up to 70% of electricity used, and shine brighter than the usual lanterns. In the past, the event’s organisers had made use of incandescent light for the lanterns.
This year’s light-up also marks the second time that students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts have been involved in the lantern design process. They worked with 36 craftsmen from China over a period of four months to produce the lanterns.
